Diving deep into the reality of a persons life

Working on a reportage about peoples life can be one of the most compelling learnings in photography. For this, you have to dive really deep into a persons reality and spend a certain amount of time with the individual. If you know what you want to learn more about, already building the relationship can be a challenging thing, but it can be also quite easy. Don’t try to force anything, just go with the flow and see what opportunities arise.

The aim of this assignment is to follow a person for a longer period of time. Document a day in this life visually with still photos.

Focus on at least five moments you experience during the day and stage each of them as a separate short photo documentary/reportage.

For every scene, please be aware that you want to answer the most important questions (following). So you’ll always have to move around, find new angles and perspectives. For every scene of the day, try to create a visual storytelling to answer these questions:

  • who?
  • is doing what?
  • and how?
  • why?
  • where?
  • what is special about this situation or moment?
