YOUR ASSIGNMENT
Photograph animals — cats, dogs, birds, or other creatures — in the streets of the Medina, from their eye level. Capture 6–10 images that show their behavior, interaction with the environment, and character, without imposing your perspective from above.
Your series should include:
• Animals in motion or at rest, interacting naturally with their surroundings
• Shots taken from the same level as the animal, not from standing height
• Moments that reveal personality, curiosity, or playfulness
• Environmental context — streets, alleys, markets, courtyards
• Compositions that create intimacy or narrative between the animal and its setting
This assignment encourages you to see the world from a different perspective, giving viewers a more immediate and immersive experience.
ENCOURAGING CONSIDERATION
– Get low, stay patient. Kneel, squat, or lie down to reach the animal’s eye level. This changes the visual relationship and draws the viewer into the animal’s world.
– Observe behavior first. Watch how the animals move, where they pause, and their interactions with people or objects. Anticipation is key to capturing meaningful moments.
– Use natural light creatively. Early morning or late afternoon provides warm tones and softer shadows, helping to define shapes and texture.
– Consider composition and framing. Isolate the subject, use leading lines, or include background elements that tell a story.
– Respect the animal. Avoid startling or forcing interaction. Let them behave naturally — candid moments are often more compelling than posed shots.
– Capture emotion and action. Playfulness, curiosity, rest, or movement — all reveal character. Combine still frames with subtle motion to enrich the story.
• Experiment with perspective and distance. Sometimes a close-up of a paw or eye tells more than a full-body shot.
