YOUR ASSIGNMENT

Create a series of 3 photographs focused on a single subject, scene, or moment. Along with your images, write a short paragraph reflecting on your experience. Choose one of the following approaches for your text:
• Why you stopped and took the picture: Explain your intention, what caught your eye, and why you decided this moment or scene was worth capturing.
• Describe your experience taking the pictures: Share what you noticed, how you moved, interacted with the environment, or overcame challenges during the shoot.
• Something you learned about the subject: Reflect on insights gained — about the place, the people, the light, or the mood — that were revealed through photographing it.

The written reflection should complement your images, giving the viewer insight into your creative process or personal connection with the scene.

ENCOURAGING CONSIDERATION

– Focus on storytelling. The paragraph should give context or reveal thought behind your choices; it’s part of the narrative of the series.

– Be honest and specific. Small observations — a color, gesture, shadow, or sound — can make your reflection engaging and vivid.

– Observe closely. The act of writing about the images often deepens your attention and understanding of the subject.

– Keep it concise. A paragraph of 3–5 sentences is sufficient; clarity is more important than length.

– Connect image and text. Ensure your paragraph complements the photographs rather than simply describing what is already visible.
• Experiment with perspective. You can combine different angles, focal lengths, or moments to show multiple facets of the subject within the series.
